Marriage in the Mountains

When Grace first emailed me to enquire about help co-ordinating her wedding, I was excited to work with her and fiancé Fabio at a new venue deep in the mountains between Malaga and Granada. Having done most of the planning herself remotely and with help from the wonderful Liz Wilkinson, who kindly recommended my services, Grace just needed us there on the day to ensure everything went smoothly and to plan.

Although I don’t do many on-the-day co-ordination weddings, it’s still a privilege to be asked to come in and oversee everything and with Grace and Fabio whose boho, rustic chic wedding would be fun-filled with love and family.

I spoke to Grace periodically in the months preceding the weddings and then in depth about a month before when she had all the final details and guest numbers. We then went over everything before they flew over to Spain and I asked Grace to let all the suppliers know that I would be there on the day and that they should come to me if they had any questions or needed help.

Arriving on the morning of the wedding, I had a list from Grace of everything she wanted help with. The venue itself was a beautiful old finca in the heart of the mountains with stunning views across valley and while the ceremony and cocktail enjoyed those views, the dinner was situated in the stunning courtyard in the middle of the finca.

The couple and their family had a fabulous wedding and it was very touching to receive this email in the days after the wedding… ” I just wanted to say a massive thank you for everything you did on our wedding day. It really did make a massive difference having you there and I’m so glad that Liz recommended you to me :) the little touches like helping with the flowers, having a drink ready for us after the ceremony and just being around making sure everything ran smoothly really did make all the difference!”

Thank you again to Liz Wilkinson and to Chloe Thornley for these stunning photos!

Modern Elegance at the Estrella del Mar

Having fallen in love with the beach club at the Vincci Estrella del Mar hotel, Maria and Brendan had a clear idea of their modern wedding when they asked me to help plan and co-ordinate their big day. They knew the area well, having visited for years, and wanted the wedding to be as fun and relaxed as possible while still maintaining the elegance and sophistication that the beach club exuded.

Both Catholic they did question the idea of having the ceremony in church but just couldn’t get a beach ceremony out of their minds. So, instead we asked Padre Peter if he could preside over the proceedings and include some traditional aspects and rituals into the ceremony so it could still take place with the sea lapping the shore in the background.

Both very aware that they were bringing their guests across to another country, they wanted to try and incorporate some fun Spanish aspects too and the tribute Gypsy Kings who performed during the cocktail hour really added that Andalusian flair. Singing the couple into dinner with Bomboleo accompanied by a single guitar also brought a standing ovation!

With the luck of the gods, we had decided to move dinner inside on the morning of the wedding, and no-one was more relieved than I at the change when the first few drops of rain fell just as the starter was being served.

Once dinner was served, we moved onto speeches and having met the bridal party in the days preceding the wedding, I knew they would be funny and touching. Maria decided to speak first, thanking all the guests and her bridal party before calling Brendan her husband for the first time, while her father, Brendan and best man all had some wonderful funny anecdotes and lots of love for the couple.

Luckily, as normal in Marbella, the rain only lasted for a short time so we were able to move back outside for the fireworks before the Jackie Brown Band kicked off the party, which lasted almost until morning!

A huge thank you to all our suppliers including Emma Zamboglou & Lyndsey Cavanagh for hair and make up, and The Love Hunters for the amazing video and photography as usual!

Natural Beauty at the Cortijo

Allie & Dale first got in touch six months before their wedding… they had been to Southern Spain a few months previously and seen all it’s natural beauty, they fell  in love with all it’s charm. Coming from Bermuda but with most family in Canada and in other far flung places around the world meant that Spain was a great place for them all to come together to celebrate their wedding.

It took a while to find the right venue as Allie knew exactly what she wanted but when I sent her the photos from Cortijo Pedro Jimenez, I knew it was the one! They both loved the style, the views and the fact that they could continue with music late into the night.

It wasn’t hard to decide on the other aspects with them – Radka Horvath captured the day in all it’s glory and the team from Evergreen immortalised the day on film.  DJ Tristan Harper was on hand to play all the tunes throughout the day from the emotional John Legend’s All of Me for the bridal processional to Kanye West’s Good Life for their entrance to dinner; while the Mariachi Band kept it lively and entertaining throughout the cocktail hour.

The Cortijo was also the ideal backdrop for the colours Allie and Dale wanted with green and white leading the way and hints of gold here and there. We tried to keep it all as natural as possible and I think the overall effect was beautiful. Our in-house décor team did a fabulous job on the ceremony set up and the lighting over dinner while as usual Earthscent’s flowers were breath-taking for the centrepieces and bouquets.

Gusto Catering provided the wonderful food and drink for the day, with sumptuous barbequed meats and fish following some delicious canapes.

Special thanks to Nicola McGeorge and Alex Harrocks for make up and hair on the day!

Radiating love in the old town!

Kiran and Sarah were one of those couples who love radiated between them and around everyone else whenever they were near me…so clearly passionate about each other I knew instantly that theirs would be a fun wedding to plan. With half the family travelling from Ireland and the rest from Canada, they wanted a venue that was large enough for the guests to stay together and close enough to Marbella that they could get married at the stunning Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de Encarnacion.

Once they’d chosen the beautiful beach club at the Hotel Don Carlos, the rest of the planning could get underway.

The wonderful Tres Corcheas provided the music for the church and we just added a few pew ends and fans to keep the ladies cool in the church. Guests then enjoyed a few drinks in the beautiful square outside the church while Sarah and Kiran were taken off for photos.

As the sun started to set we transported the guests to the hotel and they sampled sumptuous canapes and cava in the gardens before making their way down to the beach club for dinner. Overlooking the sea, guests dined on a four course meal interspersed with 3 hilarious yet moving speeches from the father of the bride, Kiran and the best man!

Once dinner finished, guests then moved over the hidden caves where band Miss Gin played two fantastic sets followed by DJ Kevin Lamb who rounded the night off until guests stumbled back to their rooms!

The benefits of a wedding planner

It’s a question I’m frequently asked, do we really need to have a wedding planner? Well, it isn’t a pre-requisite to a destination wedding to have a planner but it really can save you time, money and stress in the long run. When you consider the points below, you will really see the benefits of a wedding planner.

There are many reasons why it’s a good idea and can really help you both before and on your wedding day:

·       For some couples they simply aren’t sure if it is worth paying out for a wedding planner if they can find out information on suppliers online. But, being at the forefront of the wedding industry in Spain, we know who is at the top of their field; and more importantly, who is going to give you value for your money. Planning numerous weddings a year means that we work closely with our suppliers and have built a trusting relationship with them, thus ensuring that your wedding will run more smoothly. We also don’t ask for a commission from our suppliers, ensuring an unbiased view as to who we propose to work for you at your wedding.

·       Most of our couples are based around the world so cannot be here on the ground speaking to suppliers on a regular basis. It is also usually the case that they cannot speak Spanish (perhaps only ask for a cerveza or two!) so having a wedding planner here who can converse well with any Spanish suppliers saves you worrying that something will get lost in translation.

·       Being thousands of miles away sometimes however isn’t an issue, the issue really is time. Time that you don’t have if you both have a full time job, young children, other reasons why you can’t think about your wedding all the time. But by having a wedding planner, you don’t need to stress about this. You can trust us to make sure that all the suppliers are booked in, deposits paid, questions answered, schedules prepared etc.

·       Lastly a wedding planner really can help to make your dreams come true. You’ll see pictures you like or have a very clear vision of how you want the wedding to look but have no idea how to make it all happen. As a wedding planner, this is something we deal with every day and you’ll think it’s almost as if we’ve waved our magic wands to create your fairy-tale wedding day!

I think the picture below is a perfect example of how we can assist you and help with your wedding!

Bright and Bold Wedding in Marbella

When Sydney and Adam first got in contact about their ideas for their wedding in Marbella, I knew instantly that I’d have such fun planning their wedding. Sydney had a clear vision about what she wanted and as Marbella was they place that they’d first met, they knew it would always be where they would tie the knot.

Coming from California, Sydney flew over with her mother and sister for a venue visit and we spent a fun few days visiting the beach locations along the coast. Trusting Sydney completely, Adam knew he’d love whatever she did and when they settled on Del Mar at the Hotel Puente Romano, I knew they’d made a great choice.

We spent the preceding months booking in the suppliers that would suit their style of wedding and we had great fun styling the wedding with Sydney’s favourite colour and flower – bright pink bougainvillea!

The backdrop at Del Mar is effortlessly beautiful and guests were in awe of the location.

In keeping with the US tradition, the couple did their first look in the beautiful gardens of the hotel along with the entire bridal party – decked out in bow ties for the gents and bright, individual dresses for the ladies.

Once all the guests had been seated, it all began and one of their close friends presided over the emotional ceremony. Guests then enjoyed sumptuous canapes and drinks overlooking the pristine beach before heading inside the restaurant for dinner but not before being treated to a medley of dances by the couple for their first dance as husband and wife.

With a buffet style sharing dinner complete with lobster, steak and other delicious treats, guests were able to mingle and speak to the bride and groom before the speeches. Both emotional and funny, they rounded off the meal perfectly and lead straight into the first dances – Sydney with her father, and Adam with his mother.

The party then really did get under way with dancing at the restaurant until 12.30am followed by the hard core party goers continuing at one of the hotels bars into the early hours.

As ever a big thank you to everyone involved including Lyndsey Cavanagh & Emma Kiernan for make up and hair, Earthscent for the gorgeous flowers, David de Biasi for capturing these beautiful photos and Anker Prod for the fabulous video.

Three Day Wedding Celebration

I first met with Lucy and Mark back in 2015 and they had a clear idea of what they wanted for their wedding celebration. Firstly, it was going to be a three day extravaganza and they wanted their guests to be amazed and wowed throughout.

They also had a clear view of the style of venue for their separate events with a Ibiza style white party for the pre-wedding event followed by a full day at a breath-taking venue for the wedding itself. The final day would be at their private villa and would be a relaxed affair with good food, chilled music and laughter.

Once the initial preparations were in place, Lucy & Mark decided to take care of the accommodation for everyone and all guests were able to to spend three nights at the wedding venue, Villa Padierna Palace Hotel. The team and I worked closely with all guests to book their nights at the hotel and transfers from the airport to make their stay as easy as possible, as most guests had not been to the area before.

When a popular airline cancelling flights from London on the day most guests were arriving, we had a little extra stress and a lot of last minute changes trying to get guests and some suppliers moved to different airlines and even different airports so that they could arrive on time.

As the pre-wedding party was to be a white party event, the obvious choice was the beach club for the Los Monteros Hotel, La Cabane. Guest s arrived to a cocktail reception with hand-picked canapés to suit the drinks in the La Luna terrace of the beach club. We then moved the party to the pool area and guests were wowed with a fire show overlooking the stunning backdrop. Asian style canapés followed with background music provided by a DJ that had flown over from the UK for them especially for the event.

As the night drew in, the party moved inside and guests were welcomed by white party entertainment who gave out the specifically designed gift bags for all guests – including personalised flip flops, power bank chargers, sunglasses and even a personalised, bespoke babygro for the newborn baby attending.

With a dessert bar featuring all white desserts and the DJ cranking up the tunes until midnight, guests partied away to some of their favourite music.

The following morning we were all up early to prepare the details for the wedding including some hidden surprises for guests to be showcased throughout the day.

Lucy walked down the aisle with her father and the adorable bridesmaids and paigeboys plus a surprise entrance from the couple’s dog Honey complete with tutu and the rings.  To amaze the guests we had hidden the singers from The Rat Pack behind the pillars and as the couple were announced as Mr & Mrs for the first time by the lovely Lizzie Marriage, the appeared to sing You’re Just Too Good to be True.

The Rat Pack sang through the cocktail hour and once dinner was complete and the couple had cut the cake (surrounded by Mark’s favourite donuts), the band took to the stage once more with a full eight-piece band for the first dance and more dancing.

With a few children also attending the event, Lucy and Mark wanted to create an area for them to have fun so we transformed one of the banquet rooms at the hotel into a circus fair including games, a bouncy castle, cosy tepee for relaxing and more.

Meanwhile the adults moved inside when DJ Tristan Harper took over the music duties and continued the party to the early hours.

The day after the wedding started later in the afternoon to give guests a chance to relax after the festivities the night before and once guests were taken to Lucy and Mark’s house they could enjoy a relaxed BBQ provided by Gusto Catering and some rejuvenating smoothies and cocktails.

The three day event was a huge success so much so that the couple are thinking of doing it all again to celebrate their anniversary!

A huge thank you to everyone involved in the celebrations and to the talented Mireia Cordomi who captured it all in pictures.

Beautiful Wedding by the Beach

Sophia and David fell in love with Salduna Beach from the first picture they saw and they weren’t disappointed once they saw it in person. With a clear idea of the style of wedding – relaxed, fun and a beautiful wedding by the beach – Salduna seemed to be the perfect option. They are such a fun, relaxed couple that it made the whole planning process very easy and it was very simple to find the suppliers that would work well with the approach to the wedding that they wanted.

The wonderful Liz Wilkinson took them through the ceremony with a short but sweet and touching service on the beach itself, while Mireia Cordomi, as usual, captured the beautiful day in pictures.

Dinner was positioned on the terrace overlooking the beach and we erected a projector screen for the much anticipated speeches – all of which had me crying with laughter! A very sweet touch from the best man was to include videos of all family members and friends that couldn’t attend the wedding which didn’t leave a dry eye in the house.

After dinner when the party began, guests moved inside to start dancing. The couple had brought a DJ with them from the UK as he’d been a friend for years and knew exactly what style of music they would want.

Thank you as always to our wonderful team and suppliers to help make the day a special one!

Rustic Romance at the Monasterio

Ali and James chose April this year to celebrate their wedding at the beautiful Hotel Monasterio de San Martin. Initially a little worried about the weather (the rain in Spain falls mainly… in April!), but the day couldn’t have been brighter or more glorious for them.

With some family heartache in the weeks preceding the wedding, it was lovely to see the couple relax and enjoy their day. Beginning with drinks in the courtyard followed by a heart-warming ceremony presided over by the lovely Natasha Johnson. Both Ali and James had written their own vows and guests both laughed and cried during the ceremony.

After a drinks reception with Spanish guitarist Pepe, guests moved across the hotel to the renovated stable yard where they dined under the fading Spanish sun.

The couple had decided to space out the speeches between courses and what speeches they were. Ali’s father gave a touching tribute to his beautiful daughter while James left no dry eye in the house and then his best woman regaled the guests with stories from his childhood.

It was Ali’s musical mother and siblings who really got the crowd going – firstly with a Disney number (cleverly re-worked to be about the couple) followed by a flash mob including a number of guests in the audience! Needless to say Ali and James were speechless!

DJ Lee was on the decks for the party after dinner, which lasted until the early hours while guests enjoyed sweet churros and savory buns for a late night snack.

The talented Radka Horvath captured the day while Salvador and his team at Evergreen Films caught the magical moments on film.

Once Upon a Time in Marbella

It has been said that some weddings stay with you forever, and this unique, beautiful wedding of Lujain and Aimen is definitely one of them.  When Aimen and Lujain first contacted me earlier this year with hope for an August wedding, they had a very clear idea of the celebration they wanted. Hopefully, what we created will ensure this wedding is one that no-one will forget.

Aimen began their wedding story with a proposal at the place where dreams come true, Disneyland, and captured their magical weekend on video to show how their journey began. With a long love of Disney, movies and Star Wars, Lujain was sure to say yes!

Having visited Marbella many times and with guests flying in from various places, they decided it was the ideal location for the wedding celebration; and, as Villa Tiberio has been the firm family favourite for years, the restaurant was the obvious option for the venue.

Once we had secured the services of David de Biasi who took these magnificent photos, EL Zarrio Films who captured the magic on film and a wonderful band who flew in especially from England; our attention then turned to the styling and decoration.

With Disney and hints of old Hollywood as our premise, the team and I began to think of elegant ways to incorporate this fun, quirky theme into the wedding.

Guests were greeted by the charming Maitre’d Jose Antonio as they arrived at the restaurant and made their way down the red carpet complete with our ‘Once Upon a Time’ bespoke sign towards a special movie poster designed for the wedding.

The movie theme continued into the dinner area as the stage and the screen surround were both set to emulate the old cinema feel with red velvet curtains. The couple, both with a background and career in media, created an exceptional movie experience for their guests with a film featuring the two of them on their love story including special surprise vows from Lujain to Aimen.

Lujain’s love of Beauty & the Beast’s rose provided the inspiration for the centrepieces while quotes from their favourite movies were dotted around the venue. A dark and mystical Mirror Mirror from Snow White provided the backdrop to the photobooth area with props from other movies including a special lightsaber, just for Lujain.

An enchanted forest walkway, found in most Disney fairytales, was created for guests when they left with a final farewell and homage to Disney – ‘And They Lived Happily Ever After’.

Special thanks to all suppliers for their amazing work on this wedding, including Chez Vous and Liza Mayne and Alex Harrocks for hair and make up.
