Having fallen in love with the beach club at the Vincci Estrella del Mar hotel, Maria and Brendan had a clear idea of their modern wedding when they asked me to help plan and co-ordinate their big day. They knew the area well, having visited for years, and wanted the wedding to be as fun and relaxed as possible while still maintaining the elegance and sophistication that the beach club exuded.
Both Catholic they did question the idea of having the ceremony in church but just couldn’t get a beach ceremony out of their minds. So, instead we asked Padre Peter if he could preside over the proceedings and include some traditional aspects and rituals into the ceremony so it could still take place with the sea lapping the shore in the background.
Both very aware that they were bringing their guests across to another country, they wanted to try and incorporate some fun Spanish aspects too and the tribute Gypsy Kings who performed during the cocktail hour really added that Andalusian flair. Singing the couple into dinner with Bomboleo accompanied by a single guitar also brought a standing ovation!
With the luck of the gods, we had decided to move dinner inside on the morning of the wedding, and no-one was more relieved than I at the change when the first few drops of rain fell just as the starter was being served.
Once dinner was served, we moved onto speeches and having met the bridal party in the days preceding the wedding, I knew they would be funny and touching. Maria decided to speak first, thanking all the guests and her bridal party before calling Brendan her husband for the first time, while her father, Brendan and best man all had some wonderful funny anecdotes and lots of love for the couple.
Luckily, as normal in Marbella, the rain only lasted for a short time so we were able to move back outside for the fireworks before the Jackie Brown Band kicked off the party, which lasted almost until morning!
